 Retirement & Young Horse Boarding

Horse retirement

- Long time residents Traveler, Cadie J, Jasper and Dolly

We provide premier retirement and young horse boarding in thoughtfully managed small and large group settings. Offered on a limited basis, our program is designed for owners who value individualized attention, uncompromising standards, and a well-maintained environment.

Availability is intentionally limited to preserve the quality of care we deliver. Please contact us via email for current openings or to be added to our waitlist.

Our horses are supported by a comprehensive, horse-first nutrition and land-management program. Free-choice, high-quality hay is provided year-round, alongside access to expansive acreage that allows for natural movement and relaxed herd dynamics. Pastures are carefully maintained through rotational grazing, dry lots, and strict manure management practices, ensuring healthy footing, sustainable land use, and optimal forage quality.

Grain and supplements are thoughtfully provided on an individual basis, supporting the evolving needs of growing horses, seniors, and seasonal requirements during the winter months. Every horse in our care receives attentive oversight to ensure comfort, consistency, and long-term well-being.

Rehabilitation & Specialized Care

Equine rehabilitation stories

Daisy's transformation from August to November. This young mare has gone on to a successful sport horse career with her new owner.

Our rehabilitation program provides comprehensive care for horses requiring recovery from neglect, wound management, or post-operative treatment. Each case is managed with a highly individualized approach, combining attentive daily care with thoughtful coordination tailored to both the horse’s condition and the owner’s expectations.

We offer private, professional hauling to New Bolton Center and Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center for follow-up appointments and specialized treatments. Throughout the rehabilitation process, clients receive consistent communication, including text and photo updates, delivering transparency, confidence, and peace of mind while their horse is entrusted to our care.

REVENANT

NOVEMBER 2024

Revenant's Story

Revenant was found in a kill pen in Michigan—thin, exhausted, and facing an uncertain future. When he arrived at Flying Changes, his condition was critical. He was suffering from a severe case of botulism, leaving him profoundly weak and unable to eat on his own.

His first weeks were defined by quiet persistence and round-the-clock care. To survive, Revenant was supported with small, warm liquid mashes administered slowly by syringe—every feeding deliberate, every day a fragile step forward. Progress came slowly, requiring patience, precision, and unwavering commitment.

As his strength returned, further evaluation revealed something unexpected. A DNA test confirmed that Revenant was only four years old and a fully papered Dutch Harness Horse gelding with an exceptional pedigree. Still so young, and with so much potential ahead of him, the focus of his care shifted from survival to possibility.

Rehabilitation progressed thoughtfully from there. Training was introduced slowly and methodically, with careful attention to both his physical development and mental well-being. With time and quality training, Revenant gained muscle, balance, and confidence, developing into a willing and capable athlete.

Following his rehabilitation and training, Revenant was matched with a talented rider in Canada. Today, he is thriving in a new chapter of his life—healthy, confident, and successfully competing in the jumper ring. No longer defined by where he began, Revenant now moves forward with purpose and promise, a powerful testament to what is possible when expert care, patience, and belief come together.

Quarantine Services

Quarantine horses

These two famous pacers ended up in the wrong hands and were less than a day away from slaughter when they were saved by a former connection. They arrived to quarantine depressed, thin and defeated. After a 45 day quarantine, they left for home healthy and vibrant. These two big winners now have a dignified retirement.

The quarantine facility at Flying Changes offers a secure, secluded, and highly controlled environment. The property is private and monitored under continuous surveillance to support strict biosecurity and consistent oversight. Every horse is managed with professionalism, and respect.

When appropriate, we adhere to the UC Davis refeeding protocol to ensure a structured nutritional approach. Prior to departure, all routine and specialty services can be coordinated on site, including health evaluations, lameness examinations, vaccinations, strangles testing, and farrier care.

The quarantine center features private and semi-private paddocks with large shelters. Horses receive free-choice hay, with individualized grain programs.

Hauling can be arranged from facilities within a 2,000-mile radius through a vetted network of professional transporters, providing reliable, timely service and complete peace of mind.

“Flying Changes cared for our pony, providing both quarantine and rehabilitation when he needed it most.

Over three months, Nugget regained his health and soundness, and we had complete peace of mind every step of the way.

He came home happy, healthy, and ready to begin his new life with our family.”
